Founded in the nineteenth century, Vulcain is best known for the Cricket alarm watch introduced in 1947. Its striking mechanism earned it the nickname “watch of presidents”, as several occupants of the White House wore one. The engineering challenge of a wristwatch alarm lies not just in keeping time, but in producing an audible sound from a miniature mechanism worn on the wrist.
