John Harwood was one of the pioneers of automatic winding for wristwatches. In the 1920s, his system harnessed energy from wrist movement at a time when manual winding was the norm. An unusual detail is that some Harwood watches have no conventional crown for setting the hands: a rotating bezel performs that function, a design also intended to reduce openings in the case.
